No One can Say That Dr. Cosby Doesn't Walk the Walk......Literally! Cosby's Door to Door Education Pitch in Detroit

There's no need for my editorializing this matter. Dr. Cosby and a whole host of other "straight talkers" definitely inspired the creation of this blog and companion radio show, so without further ado...here's an excerpt from the Freep.com piece encapsulating Cosby's latest effort in promoting the need for people of color to seek educational opportunities:

Bill Cosby set to promote education in Detroit

Speaking with Detroit Public Schools students and media, comedian turned education advocate Bill Cosby said his trip to Detroit today is an attempt to bring attention to the importance of public education.

Cosby is taking part in DPS’ “I’m In” enrollment campaign designed to retain students in the school district that is facing an economic crisis due partly to a historic decline in enrollment over the past decade.

“I might say something that people may believe and bring their children back,” to school, Cosby said.

Cosby plans to accompany Robert Bobb, the district’s emergency financial manager, to knock on parents’ doors to ask them to ensure that their children attend school. The neighborhood walk is expected to begin at 5 p.m. today at the corner of Pembroke and Chapel on the west side. Cosby will speak at Henry Ford High School at about 7 p.m.

Bobb said the district’s most serious problems are getting everyone to do “whatever is necessary” to help children and security.

“Our kids can succeed,” he said.

Cosby, who has traveled nationally to speak in favor of changing the culture in struggling cities to one that has more value for education, said more people need to get involved to save Detroit’s children.

“We’re going to talk to people and try to get them to understand,” he said. “We may fail, but let it be known we did walk, we did knock on those doors. … We just know that we’re trying.”
