UK, June 18, 2008 - Spike Lee has announced plans to co-write and direct Time Traveler, a film about one man's efforts to make time travel a reality.

That man is Ronald Mallett, who became obsessed with the notion following the death of his father when he was 10. He endeavoured to create a machine that would allow son to travel back in time to save father, and this research resulted in his becoming the first African-American to earn a Ph.D in theoretical physics.

According to Variety, the film will be based on Mallett's own memoir Time Travel: A Scientist's Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality, and will revolve around his rise from poverty as well as his scientific achievements.

Lee will produce through his Forty Acres and a Mule company, and said: "Time Traveler is a fantastic story on many levels [and] also a father and son saga of love and loss."
