Another Reason Why Your kids are Social Quadriplegics

I thought I'd share with our readers yet another reason why our children are valuing style over substance and are, in essence, becoming social quadriplegics. Recent articles have reported that our youth are becoming more and more emotionless, due in part to substandard parenting, increased reliance on technology and our ever-changing social mores. After reading today's NY Daily News, a simple pair of retro sneakers further affirms that aforementioned supposition. It appears that model citizen(surely I jest) and former Jay-z business partner, Damon Dash who partnered with Stride Rite a few years ago hopes to revitalize the classic Pro-Keds line from the 70s.

I must confess that I am a clotheshorse and as of late, have amassed quite a sneaker collection-so when I heard about Pro-Keds being reintroduced, I was initially quite interested. But I quickly became dispirited, once it was further reported that the sneakers are retailing for over $100, in stark contrast to Stephon Marbury's sneaker line which have a price point of approx. $15!! According to the News, many kids in an effort to be popular believe that the pricing of the Pro-Keds make them more fashionable and desirable in comparison to Marbury's brand. I have perhaps 5 or 6 pairs of the Starburys (Stephon's shoes) and the quality and look are highly comparable to the Pro-Keds. Our society has dropped the ball folks.....the children must be taught that pricing is oftentimes decided in a arbitrary manner. In actuality, the Starburys are more aesthetically appealing but as long as the price is right(ahem...more expensive) that's all that counts. Check out the News article in question below:
